Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in flight simulation with its sixteenth world update, focusing on the stunning European Alps region.

The update brings photogrammetry coverage to over 30 cities across Switzerland, Austria, and northern Italy. Major airports including Zurich (LSZH), Innsbruck (LOWI), and Geneva (LSGG) have received complete hand-crafted makeovers with stunning detail.

New mesh data provides dramatically improved terrain representation throughout the Alpine region, with sharper peaks, more accurate valley formations, and enhanced snow coverage that responds dynamically to real-world weather data.

The update also includes 15 new discovery flights, 8 landing challenges at some of the most demanding mountain airports in Europe, and 3 new bush trips that take pilots through scenic Alpine valleys.

Performance optimizations accompany the visual improvements, with Asobo Studio reporting up to 15% frame rate improvements in mountainous terrain through their new terrain LOD streaming system.
